Why Honey Bees Are Important

Why honey bees?

Honey bees are essential for the health of people and our planet. The most important pollinators in the world, they are vital to global food crops, our economy and the ecological balance around us.

Honey bees work hard to carry pollen between plants. Fruit and vegetable crops see increased yields when they are pollinated by honey bees. In fact, honey bees pollinate over 90% of the world’s top fruit and vegetable crops, and 80% of all flowering plants.

In other words, bees are the most important factor for growth of many plants and food crops that feed our world.

Unfortunately, honey bees and other pollinators are declining in many parts of the world, largely due to higher temperaturs associated with climate change, causing the honey bee population to become endangered.

How can we help honey bees?

A single bee visits more than 100 flowers per flight. One hive can pollinate over two million flowers. Flowers and flowering plants help support honey bees and other pollinators — their survival depends on it. We must do our part to protect bee populations so they can thrive and, in turn, help us thrive too.

Colour Republic is a partner with One Tree Planted. We have created a program to support their biodiversity projects thoughout the world. Pollinator / Bee Conservation within the biodiversity project targets the importance of bees to our planet. One Tree Planted is a non-profit which restores forests and protects biodiversity by planting trees and restoring habitats and ecosystems for our important pollinators such as bees.

"These Flowers Save Bees" Collection are artisanal-designed floral bouquets inspired by flowers that are favorites for bees to nectar on. Each bouquet sold includes a donation directly to One Tree Planted to support biodiversity for bee conservation.
